GEOG 496F/596F POL 496F/596F:
European Study Group: Special Topics on Europe
Instructor: Sandy Dall'erba
This course provides students with an opportunity to study Europe, the transatlantic relations and to introduce to their research an explicit European perspective. The seminars will focus on a selection of topics which includes evolving legal institutions in the EU, various challenges presented by the recent enlargements, foreign and security policies, corporate governance, and economic, social, and environmental policies.
The seminar is interdisciplinary. Each meeting takes 2.5 hours and is split into two parts. The first one will feature a new invited speaker every week. Each lecturer is an expert in European and transatlantic issues from the departments of linguistics, anthropology, sociology, history, geography, law, urban planning, agriculture, economics, psychology, women’s studies and political science. The second part of the seminar is taught by Dr. Dall’erba and will cover one aspect of the European economic integration. This breadth reflects the nature of European studies and should enrich students’ own interdisciplinary work. While students’ familiarity with issues will vary from week to week, all students are encouraged to participate actively in all the seminar meetings.
